Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How long does Lovastatin last in the body? More than 24 hours? I ask because an antibiotic was prescribed for me that is not recommended to be taken with Lovastatin, and I want to know when I can begin the antibiotic. I took the Lovastatin yesterday but have not taken it today.
Lovastatin is a cholesterol is used to lower LDL and triglycerides. It is an effective drug and side effects are minimal if taken at proper times. It has to taken at bed time. It is lipid soluble and is excreted in bile. If you wish to stop the drug I am afraid it will raise the levels of cholesterol and LDL and it will not be good be good for your health. If you are concerned about the side effects then get the levels of transaminase and creatinine kinase as this drug may raise the levels of these enzymes. In case you want to stop the drug you need to visit your physician and get a substitute.
thank you
