How Long Does Metronidazole Take To Show Effect?

Hi, I was wondering if you could answer this? I have been re infected with trichomoniasis, my symptoms started yesterday evening which are the pretty intense burning sensation outside of vagina and red/sore/irritated. I took 1G metronidazole last night, I am just wondering how long will it take just for the burning to go away because I am extremely uncomfortable.

Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern.
I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.

1.First of all do not panic.

2. It takes about 4 to 6 hours for the metronidazole to start its action. Usually, dose advised is 400 mg 3 times a day for 5 days.
Also, to treat possible fungal infection tablet Fluconazole 150 mg can betaken. Itching if unbearable can be treated with antihistamine like Ceterizine.
Please seek prescription support from your treating doctor for the same.

3. If you are sexually active and are getting re infected, please encourage use of barrier contraceptive like condom during sex act by your partner.
Please get sex counselling done , about safe and protected sex activity. This will help to avoid unwanted pregnancy and STD s.
