Yeah, this happens. It is well known in fact. Marijuana residue is oily. It builds up in the fat. Coming back out of the fat is quite variable .. day to day... the researchers would suppose that it pops out when someone burns the fat the residue is stored in. Regardless, there are many reports in the literature of tests being intermittantly positive/negative/positive in heavy users who are abstaining.
