Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Daughter got hit just above round ankle bone by a softbal (50+ mph). She immediately couldnot walk on it. Went to orthopedic and they took xrays. Saw no breaks. 6 days later it is no better. She has been on crutches since it happened. How long do we wait until we take her back? Could it be broken or fra tured and they just did not see it? Is this normal for abruised ankle?
Hi, Fracture due to soft ball is unlikely. It is a soft tissue injury ( contusion ). TREATMENT: 1) A B/K POP slab is ideal ( for about a week.It gives complete rest to the tissues. This is because it is very difficult to stop a child from moving around and take rest. 2) If no pop, ice pack to be applied about 3 times a day 3) mild analgesic syrup
This for about a week should do the job.REST IS THE MAINSTAY OF THE TREATMENT.
