How Long Does A Knee Injury Take To Get Cured?

I injured my knee last week at the gym, and after a trip to the doctor I was told I have effusion. He said if it was not better in a week that I should go back. It s been a week now and it s not better; in fact, at times it s even worse than it was before. What can I expect when I go back to the doctor this week? How long should this take to heal?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Effusion might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood).
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
