How Long Does Abdominal Pain Take To Subside While On Treatment For UTI?

My friend is diagnosed with UTI and colitis and is currently taking antibiotics for both issues. She is on her second day of the treatment. However she still experiences intermittent, sharp, severe pain in the stomach area and sides of hey abdomen. Is pain in these areas typical and common? Should it still be this severe? How long into the treatment should the pain subside?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

According to history provided you might have intestinal infection along with colon infection and so it can be the case of enterocolitis. You have to continue the prescribed antibiotic for the prescribed duration. In 3 to 4 days you can see the improvement after antibiotic start working. If no improvement is seen then we have to undergo one more investigation that is ultrasonography of the abdomen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
