How Long Does An Allergic Reaction To Amoxicillin Take To Resolve?

I recently went to emergency for a migraine, dr did chest X-ray showing normal heart size and lungs were well inflated and clear, also took blood, diagnosis was Migraines, Acute maxillary sinusitis and Viral Infection, I was given Amoxicillin 875 mg and after taking 1 tablet, twice daily for two days I developed a horrible tightening in my throat, a red blister like rash all over the back of my throat and on the tonsil sides of my throat, burning and very difficult to swallow, I asked my pharmacist what I could take and she advised Benadryl....it s been 1-1/2 weeks, blisters are still running down the back of my throat and just one side of the throat is sore...first the left, then moved to the right with additional blistering and burning, I take one Benadryl at night to help me fall asleep but wonder how long this is going to last, I feel it s an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin. Went to a Doctor, he gave me a shot saying this should kick start the healing...does it take this long or should I see a 3rd Dr....I only have a Endocrinologist I see regularly 2-4 times a year and just had my Thyroid labs done (I m not on any medication currently)

That's terrible! I am sorry to hear that you had to go through that. I agree, this sounds like a drug reaction to the amoxicillin. If its been 1.5 weeks, then yes, unfortunately, you should still have the rash and be in pain :-(. I dont know when you got the shot, I am assuming its a steroid, but if it was recent, give it 3-4 days, and if you dont notice a change, and especially if things are getting worse, you should go back to the doctor who gave you the shot, as they have seen the rash before and can evaluate how much healing has occurred. Feel better!
