How Long Does Bilirubin Level Take To Become Normal?

Hi Doctor, I had severe sepsis and pneumonia and my bilirubin went up to 32 then down to 26 the next day. then 8 days after I had another blood test and my bili went down to 1.5 which is slightly elevated if you look at the normal range of =1.0. So another LFT was done after 1 month and my bili is still 1.5. I just want to ask you why it doesn t go down to normal level.

Hi,

1. Bilirubin level may be elevated due to a lot of causes like:

infection, liver failure and medication.

2. I need to know about your liver test like transaminases ( AST and ALT).

If they are elevated too than you need to be treated for hepatitis.

Otherwise, bilirubin level 1.5 is slightly elevated and it will need more than 8 weeks to be normalised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
