How long does hydrocodone stay in the system? I recently accepted a job postition and was drug tested prior to empoloyment. I never took the medication as prescribed and average one pill a day when I no longer could tolerate the pain. The night before the drug screening, I did not take the medication.

Hydrocodone stays in the body a very short time. If you were only taking a pill a day, and hadn't taken any for a couple of days before the test, it should be okay. You should tell the people screening you that you have been PRESCRIBED hydrocodone, so if it does show up, you have the explanation. Drug screens are for detecting illegal use of drugs, but if you are using them legally by prescription, then you need to report that up front so that you are not accused of illegal use if it shows up in the test.
