How Long Should I Expect To Bleed For After Medical Abortion?

hi, im 31 years old and had a medical abortion 4 weeks ago (9 weeks along). I had to repeat the pills due to retained tissue. I bled and it stopped for a few days, then it began again. I am still bleeding bright red blood and have some cramping. It is not a lot but how long should i expect to bleed for?

Hello,
Usually if the abortion is complete, you can expect to bleed for a few days up to two weeks. Medical abortion should always be done under medical surveillance and a follow up sonogram is done two weeks later to confirm the completion of the process. If you did not do so, please see a specialist immediately and get a proper evaluation in addition to a sonogram, coagulation profiles and blood counts. You may need to have a check curettage if there are any retained products as suggested by your symptoms. Hope this helps.
