How Long Should Anti-epileptic Medication Be Taken?
Hi my mother had a heart attack two months ago and had status epilepticus so she was put on a lot of antiseizure meds. The seizures are under control now for over a month and shes in PVS but still on the same doses of anti seizure meds. will this stop her from regaining full conciousness? The doctors are just giving her these doses IN CASE she goes back into status epilepticus. How do they know she still needs these doses?
She can gradually taper the drugs, sudden stoppage of anti-epileptics can provoke seizure attack and can even cause status epilepticis. You can consult a neurologist and he will direct you accordingly. Multiple anti epilepsy drugs can cause sedation and may cause some difficulties to regain consciousness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
