Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 87 year old mother had a stroke last week and is doing very well. She has been on a three-pill daily regimen for high b.p. for decades, including a diuretic which makes her get up frequently overnight to urinate. I think it's time to re-examine how she is being treated for this. Her doctor did agree to drop the diuretic. Without it, she's at usually about 110/60. Any opinion?
High blood pressure (bp) can be treated through the aim of various drugs including diuretics.
Your mother has gone through a stroke last week (I'm sorry for that) and now she is doing well. I believe all she is doing is laying on the bed, with small movements to prevent another stroke. This can be causing her bp to get lowered.
I too agree diuretic should be dropped. However, keep monitoring her bp, record the results for future reference.
Hope this helps.
