Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i had suffered from depression & panick and have been taking nexito for last two months with inderal 10. I am getting good result out of it. how long i should continue to get rid of this prolem permanently? or is there any chance of reccuring after stopping the medicines?
Its good to note that you are showing improvement in your symptoms of depression and panic. Generally, it is recommended that the anti-depressant (Nexito- Escitalopram) should be continued for another 6-9 months after achieving complete remission in case of 1st episode of depression.
However, if you have had episodes in the past, the treatment will have to continue even longer. For example, if you had one episode prior to the current one, 2 years is recommended. For 3 episodes, 4-5 years is recommended and so on.
Regarding chance of recurrence, there will always be some risk. Adequate treatment will help you reduce the risk but will not completely eliminate the risk.
I do hope that I was able to answer your query. Best wishes.
