How Long Should The Sex Be Avoided After The Turp?

I m 60 yrs. old. I had bladder shutdown and could not urinate after Shoulder surgery due to the Anesthesia during the surgery. During the next 5 weeks I went to a Urologist who did a number of Uretha scoping and also did a Prostate Biopsy to make sure I didn t have cancer. No cancer so I had Turp done to get the bladder going again which is allowing me to urinate again but in smaller amounts but more often. During these 5 weeks I had a Catheter and failed the Flow Test until I had the Turp. Question is: I can get an erection but not having sex with wife yet as Turp was done 5 days ago. How long is the norm to avoid sex and masterbation after Turp to avoid pain and is bleeding a usual result after Turp for awhile? Sorry - Rather than pay---I ll just ask my Urologist the question and have my Medical Coverage pay.

Thanks fr writing in.

Most men are asked to avoid sex and masturbation for 6 to 8 weeks after TURP. As TURP was done just 5 days back it is essential to recover fully before having physical activity like sexual intercourse of masturbation.

You can start feeling better at the end of a week following TURP. For a month you should not lift or move any heavy objects or do any housework or digging. Walking for smaller distances is allowed.

When the scab on prostate falls after wound healing then you might experience a slight bleeding in the first 2 weeks and this is not a serious concern.

Please continue drinking good amounts of fluids and urinate frequently and avoid holding urine.
