Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my son is 9 years and about 25 kilograms and average in height, quiet active but very thin the issue is that he does not want to eat any of his meals, for each meal he takes almost an hour or more, should I give him cyphon syrup, if yes what should be the dosage.
Cypon syrup contains Cyproheptadine in dose 2mg/5ml. The dose for a 25 kg child would be 2 mg or 5 ml orally 4 times a day. May be increased gradually over a 3 week period to 8 mg 4 times a day. Maximum dose is 32 mg/day.
However, I would not recommend use of such drugs. Since it is metabolized by the liver, it creates unnecessary taxation on the liver.
Our body is made of proteins. Meat, eggs, fish, pulses, soya, spinach, carrots etc. contains proteins and need to be taken in bulk if he is to gain weight. Ask him to take these in more amount rather than taking any sort of medication. It has to be backed up with proper exercise.
