Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Playing football and landed on my hand jamming my thumb. Trainer thinks I have a ucl sprain. Whole hand has been bruised and swollen for a week. Is there a chance I tore it or did something worse than a sprain? How much bruising should a sprained ucl have? And how much mobility would I have with complete tear of ucl?
UCL sprain may have bruises however bruises is due the vascular injury(internal bleeding ) . The bruise will subside in some more days. You need to immobilize the thumb with thumb spica. I advise you to do ice packing regularly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saroj Kumar Suwal, Orthopedic Surgeon
