How Safe And Effective Is Taking Losartin For BP?

My blood pressure is 149/101. Am on losartin. Was also taking HCTZ but had a reaction to drug so stopped taking it. While taking 25 mg of HCTZ and 25 mg of losartin bp was 120/80. Now told to stop HCTZ and take two losartin. Bp is 149/101. Should I be concerned?

Dear sir

Losartan belongs to group of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers which is recommended as first line of drug therapy in diabetes.

Generally losartan has good tolerability, but when it is used alone it is a weak antihypertensive. but when combined with hydrochlorothiazide group of drugs, it will reduce the blood pressure more rapidly.

Losartan causes fluid retention and hyperkalemia so must be used in caution in patients with renal artery stenosis and renal artery stenosis.

Thanks
