I understand your query and i am trying to give you some more information.
After diagnosing a nodule at the thyroid gland, the next step is the examination of the
hormonal status to see if the nodule is active, i.e., if it over produces thyroid hormones. If the results are suggestive for
hyperthyroidism (as in your case) , the scintiscan is performed to see if the nodule is hot or is the rest of the thyroid responsible for this overproduction.
The hot nodules have a very low risk of malignancy as is not recommended to do FNAB (fine needle aspiration) in these cases. But if the nodule is
cold, than FNAB would be recommended.
About the procedure of FNAB, i can say that it is painless (as painful as an muscular injection), doesn't have side effects (
hematoma in some cases, that resolves in a few days) and 2-3 punctures are sufficient to give a correct result.
