How Safe Is To Take Cytotec After Having Missed Miscarriage?

Hi doctor My last period date is 14 feb n ultrasound shows that I m9-10 pregnant at 16may and there is no cardic movment present and it is a missed abortion.I took 2 pills of cytotec last night n 2 pills after breakfast to day suggested by my doc.I just want to know is it safe n best for me or not? Bcoz I dnt want to do a D n C. Date 18-5 14

Hello,
Since you are already 9-10 weeks pregnant, an induced medical abortion may or may not be successful. Your doctor may have prescribed this possibly because the size of the gestation sac is lower than the actual age due to the missed abortion. Since you are under medical surveillance, please follow your consultant's instructions and wait for the result. If single dosage fails, it may be repeated once. After this, surgical evacuation is the only alternative. Either way, follow up is a must. Hope this helps.

Hello dear,I understand your concern.In my opinion 9-10 weeks of pregnancy might not respond to medicines for termination.The chances of incomplete abortion might be more.So discuss regarding that with your doctor.If you want to avoid D&C the medicines can be tsken for termination but it might cause heavy and prolonged bleeding.So take adequate iron supplements to compensate for blood loss.
