How Safe Is To Travel In Train For 12 Hours During Pregnancy?
hello doctor, am anusha... am precisely 11 weeks pregnant. i wanted to know if it is safe for me to travel by train for 12 hours now. i asked 2 doctors and got different answers. one said to go and other said not to just to avoid risk. am confused. please help. Note: the train is air conditioned and has sleeping berths
I understand the problem. The doctors that guide you give advice based on the following principal: It is safer to travel after 12-14 weeks rather than 11 weeks. However most women will not come to harm even if they travel early.
So you may travel if you want but then you will be taking a small risk of complications like abortions.
Even if the train is air conditioned and has sleeping berths does not decrease the risk of travel.
So think again and reasses if you really want to take the risk. Even after 12 weeks the risk remains but decreases. The final call is yours as you will have to decide about your risk taking capacity. If I was your treating obstetrician I would strongly recommend against the travel.
Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist
