I smashed my finger in the garage door today. Did not bleed much, but clear liquid came out instantly and has been oozing out ever since. This happened approx 12 hours ago. What is the clear liquid and do i need to get it checked out. There is swelling and minor pain. Nail has not changed color and there is no smell or bleeding, just clear liquid. I am also a diabetic

hello,
due to the injury at the finger, the body reacts by inflaming the local area.
inflammation is body's own way for healing and protecting the damaged area u see,
the liquid oozing from the damaged finger is due to the inflammation. the fluid gets collected at the injured area due to increased blood flow at local level.
swelling and minor pain is also due to the same reason.
no bleeding and no bad odour suggests good thing and it suggests that no much damage is occurred there.
now as u said you are diabetic you need to take extra care of the damaged part.
in diabetics, the high sugar level does hamper the healing process.
you need to keep the damaged part clean and sterile, take good antibiotic coverage in order to prevent any possible infection and pain killers if its paining much.
precise control of sugar is utmost important.
in spite of this if the condition doesnt get better, i suggest you consult some surgeon for specialist care.
thanks
regards.
