How Should Burning Sensation And Constant Pain In The Neck Be Treated Arising From Prior Strenuous Work?

5 years ago I was injured on a job, lifting heavy things, I heard a pop and instantly was hurting, I finished my job, went home. as the days went on, it was so painful I was just crying it was so painful, I was not able to turn my head to the left, drive with my left hand. My work had me start workcomp claim, then they sent me to a chiropractor, they popped my neck without ever having any xrays. I had tried physical therapy, injections, electrode therapy, nothing was helping. all the while all their people telling me nothing wrong This pain is constant burning it does not stop at all. Finally I went to deep tissue massage therapist, worked with her for 5 months, started once every week then as I did this the burning was not constant just here and there. went once a month, had so much relief. then workcomp said that s all nothing wrong. it has been 5 months- it is exactly as it was when this started. So frustrating- what is it? Why is this hurt non stop, if nothing is wrong with it?

Hello,

What I understand from your history with out a proper details of the same, you have a lot of muscle weakness in your neck and upper back region. It is unfortunate that you have been not able to come out of the problem after repetition consultation with the specialist. I wonder that how could anyone miss out the examination of the muscles of the neck and upper back, and also don't advice for strengthening the same.

As, you have injured the neck the muscles over a period of prolong illness must have become weak. and this will lead to reduced joint space and lead to nerve root compression leading to abnormal sensations like burning tingling etc. As per my experience and understanding about your history I think you need to do some simple neck strengthening exercises and trapezius strengthening exercises which will in turn help to regain the joint spaces back to near normal and avoid the pressure on the nerve roots which will in turn reduce your symptoms.

Since the injury and symptoms are 5 months old you may need at least 4-6 weeks of time for the benefit of the exercise to be achieved. But I have cent percent feeling that with simple and proper guidance for the exercise you should have a bigger benefits to come out of the condition and symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
