How Should Forearm And Armpit Pain With Swollen Lymph Nodes Be Treated?

My 11 year old son was stung by a bee on his forearm on Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning he woke up in extreme pain and complained of his armpit hurting. Hil lymphnodes are swollen and his arm is extremely red and swollen. This is causing him severe pain to the point of tears and waking up in the middle of the night in pain. I have been treating him with benedryl and ibuprofin and icing the arm. What else should I do for this, and should I be worried?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Bee sting causes inflammation and allergy at the site, that is why the regional lymph nodes gets enlarged and tender. Usually this will respond to analgesic and antihistamine as you are doing. In cases not responding to this, I used to give a short course of oral steroids and an antibiotic for 5-7 days, in cases there is super-added infection also. It will be fine if can get back to your doctor to see what is going on.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
