How Should Pain At The Outside Of The Left Thigh And Lower Calf Be Treated After Flight Travel?

Hello, my mother travelled to the US 2 days ago and was in flight for 9+ hours. Since then she has been complaining of pain along the outside of her left thigh and left shin/calf in lower leg. I wanted to consult with a doctor to see what we need to do. She is having great difficulty moving around and feels most relief upon laying on bed. Please advise.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Her symptoms seem to be related to sciatica, a pinched nerve in the lumbar vertebral column. I recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam and a lumbar spine MRI. In the meantime, I recommend taking naproxen 500mg twice daily for 10 days and bed rest. Physiotherapy can help too.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
