Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Should Throat Problems, Breathlessness With Pharyngitis Be Treated?
My 10 year old daughter is having throat problems as well. This started about two months ago. She said she feels like she can not breath but her airways are clear. When this started we took her to the Emergency Room. All X-rays were clear and she was diagnosed with Pharangitis. This usually happens late in the evening which makes me believe it could be some sort of allergy. We try to keep her calm and let her know she can breath but they panic her. Do you have any idea what this could be.
If a throat examination after treating pharyngitis is normal, airways are clear, and she still feels breathless, this might indicate anxiety or a functional disorder. Anxiolytics, counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy might help her. Kindly discuss with a psychiatrist. Meanwhile, give her mental and emotional support, make engaged in cheerful activities and group play, and ensure adequate sleep. Avoid undue stress in home or school.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
