How Should Tongue Lumps With Pain Be Treated?

I have a lump Inside my tongue on the right that is quite painful. Now I have one staying on the left side as well. I have heart and lung issues, I wear dentures, ischemic colitis along with many other medical issues. I would like to know if it is something I need to be concerned about our if I can try to ignore it until it goes away, if it s not harmful. I could possibly have metastatic lung cancer, waiting to get needed tests. If you could possibly let me know how serious this could be. Thank you

Hi. Thank you for writing to HCM.

Lumps in the tongue need to be evaluated through a bi-manual palpation to assess the nature of the lump. Since you use dentures there is a possibility that repeated injury to the sides of the tongue have started an inflammatory process. With your suspicion of possible metastatic lung disease, it is more significant now to have your tongue evaluated by an ENT specialist or an oral pathologist. A call on whether a biopsy is required or not can be taken by the examining physician.

It is my recommendation that you do not neglect this.

Hope this is useful. Do let me know if you have any other concerns.
