How Should Uncomfortable Dull Pain After Injury To My Outer Wrist Be Treated?

Hello! I injured my outer wrist (where it bends)while bench pressing almost 3 weeks go and still have very slight pain when attempting to lift weights. It started off as a sharp pain that slowly improved to the “uncomfortable” dull pain it is now. It never swelled and because it improved I assumed it was a sprain. Day to day activities it almost goes unnoticed unless randomly positioned a certain way. Is this Normal progression for this kind of injury?

Hello,

You have injured your outer wrist, you initially experienced sharp pain and after 3 weeks it has improved but you still have dull pain and are unable to lift weights. You are still uncomfortable. You should keep the affected wrist in rest. Keep it elevated to avoid fluid retention and pain.

Doing crepe bandage may help as it will keep the wrist at rest. Taking anti inflammatory medicines are helpful. Such pain can arise due to nerve injury or compression, inflammation or irritation of the tendons that bend and extend the wrist, tendonitis, arthritis, fracture or ganglion cyst, etc.

The treatment depends on the diagnosis. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedist. Get X-ray, CT / MRI, blood tests if required done so that treatment can be started at the earliest. You can take NSAIDs, naproxen, one stat after food to get relief from pain. Get connected to a Physical therapist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
