How Soon Can HIV Be Diagnosed After A Possible Exposure?

Hello Doctors I have had exposure 88 days ago and I got all symptoms (sever dry mouth, pins and needls, heat under my armbit), I used Oral oraquick hiv test and all negative (75 days, 80 days, 85 days) I have couple of questions - is it possible that hiv antibodies will take 85 days to be detectable, can they take significantly longer than blood? - Should I trust Oral oraquick? - Again it is oral fluid test not a blood test, does that make any difference

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Best test is Elisa HIV to rule out positivity or negativity of disease. There are false negativities in the card test.

My suggestion is to go for Elisa method for HIV. Then only, you can come to a conclusion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Siddartha
