How Soon Can I Take A Pregnancy Test Inspite Of Having Late Periods?

I had my period for five days as usual and I finished it on monday. I had sex on thrusday, and started a light bleeding from Friday night to Saturday night. I took a pregnancy test on sunday morning and it was negative. Even though the bleeding stopped, I still want to know what s going on with my body. I m I pregnant or not? What does this mean ?

Hallow Dear,

You have got your periods and still you feel you could be pregnant! What makes you think so?

Missing a period is the first cardinal symptom of pregnancy. You had your period as usual and you bled for 5 days. You had some bleeding after intercourse on Thursday. This bleeding should not be attributed to pregnancy. Uncomplicated pregnancy never causes any bleeding. This bleeding could be due to some cervical erosion. Please report to a Gynaecologist to get examined from within the vagina to find out whether you have any lesion on the cervix (mouth of the uterus) responsible for such bleeding. Some cervical lesions like large erosion, cancer, etc. cause post coital bleeding. If there is any cervical lesion, you may have to undergo either Pap smear test or Directed cervical biopsy to decide the diagnosis of cervical lesion. Please do not attribute this symptom to possibility of pregnancy.

However, if you still want to be certain about the non-pregnant status, you may go for Beta hCG test since your pregnancy test on urine is negative. This test is very sensitive and specific which will resolve your query.

I personally feel you should not be worried about pregnancy. Please get your cervical condition evaluated from a Gynaecologist.

I hope this helps you.
