How The Dosage Should Be When I Am Switching To Armour From Synthroid(175)/Cytomel(5) Combo?
Hi. I ve been on a Synthroid(175)/Cytomel(5) combo for the past 8 years and am now switching to Armour. My Dr. prescribed 120 mcg of Armour (split into 60mcg tablets) and I m wondering the best way to switch over. Should I just take two tablets each morning right away or should I ease myself into the new dosage?
Synthroid (Levothyroxine/T4 175 mcg plus Cytomel( liothyronine/T3 5 mcg).
Armour provides 38 mcg levothyroxine (T4) and 9 mcg liothyronine (T3) per grain of thyroid.
The short half-life of liothyronine necessitates three or four daily doses and is associated with fluctuating T3 levels. Hence the dosage should be at least twice a day.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
