How To Check For Intestinal Leakage?

I have a friend that just had surgery. The doctors where looking for a hole in his intestine. They didn t find the hole. I heard the doctor tell him that some sclerosis on his liver. The now want to do a GI. Do you think GI is for a liver biopsy or are they still looking for a leak in his intestine? Or both?
