How To Check If Enough Breast Milk Is Being Produced?

I am breastfeeding and my baby is wiggling a lot and whimpering. He will stay on the breast for hours but does not appear to be drinking however when I pull him off because he is not eating he screams and roots around again. Am I just not making enough milk? He is 4 weeks old

Hi, thanks for using HCM.
I understand your concern.. do u have this this problem from the very beginning? Breast milk is considered to be adequate if 1. the baby sleeps for 2 hrs peacefully after taking a feed,2. the baby is gaining adequate weight, that is 30 g/day from day 10 onwards, 3. If the baby is passing urine frequently. If these are good, it might just be a habit of your baby. Some mothers experience hardness of the breast and milk ejection from 1 breast while feeding with the other one. To increase the breast milk drink 10-12 glasses of water daily, include healthy food including lots of fruits and vegetables, 2 glass of milk, 1 egg and oats in your diet. Hope i have answered your queries. Good day.
