How To Clean The Skin At The Second Degree Burn Site?
Hi doc removed several layers of skin (breast) due to a 2nd and 3rd degree burn last Wednesday. dressed area with a negative pressure pump. A skin graft is planned for this Thursday. Pump failed today, called Doc, they said to remove dressing and clean area and apply silvidean and cover., They will see my wife tomorrow afternoon. My Question is how do I clean the raw area? just dab area with cloth /soap or should I make a salt water solution? and will the salt water really sting to wound?
As per your case history of second-degree burns, my treatment advice is - 1. Avoid using soap or Dettol on that part. 2. Clean the wound with water and betadine solution twice daily. 3. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil, and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
