How To Confirm A Pregnancy?

I'm 32 and I have been having unprotected sex for months now with my husband. My period is 42 days late and today I started spotting an orangey red color. The pregnancy test 2 weeks ago was negative but I am having sore breasts and a tender stomach. Could I in fact be pregnant?
