How To Confirm Pregnancy?

Hi I am quite concerned and wonder if anyone can help? Basically My last period was 17/4/2011 and I finished my period on 21/4/2011. I then had sex at 3am Sat 23rd say early hours of 24th April. I took the morning after pill at 9.10am on Tues 26th April. Five days later I had a period for 4 days until the 6/5/2011. At normal Flow. I am concerned if I maybe pregnant as today s date is 12th May and i still have a light flow of blood. My actual period is due on Sunday 16/5/2011? Is this alarming for me? Am I pregnant as i am feeling tender breasts and symptoms of a slight period pain? Really concerned!!!!

Hallow,

Pregnancy is diagnosed by cessation of menses and not by continuation of bleeding for longer time. You have earlier bleeding due to the morning after pill you had taken.

These pills are oestrogen-progesterone pills with higher dose. After the pill, the levels of these hormones increase in the blood, thickening the lining of the uterus (endometrium). As the levels start dropping down, the endometrium breaks causing the bleeding. This is the mechanism of normal menstruation also.

Do not consider the possibility of pregnancy at all for two main reasons:
1. Morning after pill was taken in 24 hours (before 72 hours were over) of intercourse. It has good success rate in preventing the pregnancy.
2. Bleeding is not a symptom of pregnancy.

I hope you are out of stress now.
