Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 16 year old son is stealing from our wallets and purses to buy Magic Cards. He is obsessed and cannot go for more than an hour without having to look at them. His school promotes Magic Cards and even has a league of legends group which is allowed to play in the school before and after school. We have approached the school on several occasions and they think there is nothing wrong with them. I feel he is addicted. He has withdrawn from the family and into his cards. I tried to find an addiction group in our area without success.
Hi, Thanks for asking. I can understand your concerns. He does not seem to be falling in the range of addiction at present. You can try the de sensitization method for him, where he can spend two hour without the cards and you reward him. then gradually increase the time. If such a patient comes to my clinic I would suggest parents to allow child to play the magic cards in school but restrict it at home and only use it as a reward for his desired behaviour. If he does not follow that you can withdraw the cards for two or three days. If he is found stealing then the cards should be withdrawn for a week and he should be given some work in the house to earn for the amount he had stolen. I hope I have helped you. Thank you.
