My daugher who is 21 and a student in Durham is having problems with a blocked saliva duct. She has been advised to have an operation to reduce the swelling. Can you tell me how long the procedure is and how long it will take to recover? Thankyou

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain blocked salivary gland duct occurs due to formation of crystalline stones within the duct of the salivary gland and it can cause blockage of the duct and the saliva can flow back to the gland causing swelling.. The surgery is done to remove the obstructing stones so that the blockage gets opened and the saliva will flow into the mouth and the swelling from the gland will resolve.. Time taken depends upon the location of the stones and the deeper the stone is located in the duct the time consumed will be more but will approximately be done in an hour or so.. You need not to worry as it is a small surgery and recovery will take place in about two weeks or even less and all depend upon the location of the stones..
Hope this information helps..
