How To Cure Chronic Dull Abdominal Pain?

Dear doctor, I am a 35 year old male with chronic dull abdominal pain. I am skinny fat, 5 71/2 and 125 lbs. I have been suffering from this condition for the past 5-6 years. I have seen a doctor over this issue a few years back but nothing came out of it. He did all sorts of tests, no stomach or intestinal ulcer, no gas trouble, no appendicitis, no stomach or intestinal worm, no hepatitis or lacerations within stomach or intestines, no presence of helicobacter pylori . He did a barium test. Stool test and blood test came clean. At the end he gave me some medication related to stress (I think, based on the info on the leaflet found within the drug case) which i discarded as I found it amusing that he would treat me for stress when I was having trouble with my abdomen and stopped seeing him. Also ECG results came -ve. The dull pain doesn t affect me during daily life. Only when i press my belly i feel it. When I eat, after some time I feel my belly to be throbbing as if my heart is in my belly. I did my own research online and found my condition closest to Chronic functional abdominal pain. I don t suffer from bouts of diarrhea or vomiting or pass blood in stool. I don t feel any pain during bowel movement and I have one every day. I went without gluten once for a few months, it felt slightly better but the dull pain didn t end, i.e it has no effect whether I have gluten in my diet or not, i get the same throbbing sensation some time after I eat. Looking forward to your diagnosis

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM! I understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to irritable bowel syndrome , which is a common intestinal condition characterized by abdominal pain and cramps; changes in bowel movements (diarrhea, constipation, or both); gassiness; bloating; nausea; and other symptoms.

It is known that stress can worsen the situation. So the doctor who wanted to treat you for stress has not been wrong.

This is not a life threatening condition. All the tests result normal, like in your situation.

Much about the condition remains unknown or poorly understood; however, dietary changes( more fibers and avoid caffeine and spicy food), drugs ( like buscopan, antispastics) , and psychological treatment are often able to eliminate or substantially reduce its symptoms.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
