How To Cure Infant's Cough And Cold?

My baby is now 1.7years old& he is now suffering from cough& cold. His doctor prescribed him montair4 for regularly once in a day & said not to stop medicine until he told. I am tensed about my child & please inform me if there is any side effect which can harm my child. Thanks
