I Have a lump that hurts about the size of a dime on my right side of my neck. If I push on it, the pain seems to subside but then returns. It does have radiating pain up to my gums. It is not at the base of the tongue but more where a lymph node might be. Been to a dentist but no tooth problem. Thoughts please ma

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. S. Samanta's Response
Hi! thanks for sharing your problem of the painful lump on neck!
As per your description,
1. the pain seems to subside when pushed, but then returns...this means it is of cystic character and loose
2.It does have radiating pain up to my gums....this means it is related to trigeminal nerve!
Therefore, I would suggest following possibilities:
You need a clinical assessment and a needle biopsy and therefore please see a general surgeon for this and treatment depends upon the diagnosis only; but generally it is surgical removal of it!
Regards,

Therefore, I would suggest following possibilities: 1. infected benign cyst like lymphatic cyst, retention cyst, hemangioma, dermoid or sebaceous cyst 2. benign tumors of the salivary gland You need a clinical assessment and a needle biopsy and therefore please see a general surgeon for this and treatment depends upon the diagnosis only; but generally it is surgical removal of it!
