Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have purple splothes on my lower legs, mainly in the front. They are not bruises. They fade within a week or so and then others appear. They are different shapes and range from small to about 3 inches. What causes them and what can i do to get rid of them? They started last summer and went away briefly for a few months. I have seen a Dermatologist, a Vasclar ssurgeon, had a Dopler test, and numerous blood work. My blood work is fine and so is my circulation. I am 74 and female. Please, can you shed some light on this condition?
hi i understand your concerns, the symptoms appears to occur due to a condition called varicose, but it appears to be at a very early stage and is mainly due to age related weakness in veins rather than a frank blood flow stagnation that can be detected on a doppler study. The purple colouration is mainly due stagnation or sluggish flow of blood in that region, which may lead to discolouration or staining of the skin by venous blood.
wearing below knee compression stockings, with medication that improves blood flow like tab. pentoxyphylline. another medication called flavinoids which comes as tab.daflon, appears to improve the strength of the veins.
you will get rid of your symptoms and a better overall leg health due to improved circulation.
thank you wishing you a speedy recovery
