Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi about 3 weeks ago i had a very full shopping trolley run up the back of my foot/ankle. went to the emergency room a week ago and had xrays. No broken/fractured but still painful and right beside the ankle bone on the outer side is a lump. The lump extends over and around my ankle bone towards the top of my foot. Just a little worried cause swelling doesn t seem to be going down and the main lump beside the ankle bone is quite big and doesn t look right. About half the size of a golf ball.
I have studied your case with diligence. As per your history pattern there can be persistent tear in ankle ligament leading capsular tightness.
I will advise to do MRI ankle for soft tissue involvement. Till time you can continue physiotherapy exercises and also use supportive splint or brace. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and TENS will help in early healing.
If there is complete ligament tear then arthroscopic ankle ligament repair can be done or if capsular tightness is severe then release can be done.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health
