My girlfriend was told that she was pregnant when she went to the doctor a week ago. Yesterday, she went to the doctor for mild cramping and had a ultrasound done and they told her they didnt see a sac and that she most likely would have a misscarriage. Her body is giving off the pregnancy hormone. Her last period was July 19, 2011. Could the doctor we saw yesterday be wrong or just not see the baby? If so, why has no sac developed?
You have not mentioned what was the stage of pregnancy when it was detected and how was it diagnosed? - by Urine test or by Ultrasonography? It is likely that she had a pregnancy where the embryo was missing or non-viable what we call as Blighted ovum. This can be visualized in USG as a crumpled pregnancy sac. Usually this happens before 6 weeks of pregnancy and it gets aborted out of its own.
