I am having trouble with chest congestion, feels like I need to sit up to breathe. Also, having pain along the base of my throat. We have low pressure moving in and my lungs are susceptible to pressure changes. What should I do...I have an albuterol inhaler and an Advair pack, which I just used.
thanks for your question I completely understand your problem congestion in chest can be due to infection which increases the mucous secretion in the lungs that causes congestion or it occurs in smokers in which there is hypertrophy of mucous secreting glands inturn they secrete more mucous leading to congestion. first thing you should do is steam inhalation thrice a day that will ease your congestion and if sputum or phlegm is yellow or foul smelling then you have to take an antibiotic course like cefexime for a week , for which you have to consult a pulmonologist . you can continue with the inhalers pulmonologist can guide u regarding the inhaler therapy as if u were an ex smoker then he can do a spirometry and according to the stage of the disease he can start you on long acting beta 2 agonists and inhaled steroids or some anticholinergic inhalers like tiotropium ,these inhalers will cause some bronchodilation and that will ease the sputum clearance and inturn will decrease your congestion thanks/regards feel free to ask more questions may god bless you with good health
