Dear loving daughter,
Sorry to hear about your father's surgery, but dont worry. If we have an issue, we will solve it. Firstly a subtotal
gastrectomy means a lot of absorption issues are coming in our way, as a lot of enzymes to digest sugars and
proteins are lost. Good news is, that enzymes which digest fats and simple sugars are still with us. So it will be a good idea to use them. For the time being put your dad on a high simple sugar and fat diet. For example, let him have fruit juices with added
glucose, milk and milk products with sugar, high fat milk, use butter/ ghee as a cooking medium rather than oil, dry fruits are a greatsnack for him, roasted in ghee makes them further better. But make sure of 3 things:
1. DO NOT GIVE HIM ONLY SUGAR AT ONCE, GIVE HIN SALTY AS WELL, otherwise he may get dizzy, throw up and have high
heart rate, sweating and
panic attack like state, called DUMPING SYNDRKME.
2. GIVE ADEQUATE FLUIDS, ATLEAST WATER, WITH EACH MEALS, for avoiding dumping syndrome, for adequate hydration, to avoid
constipation and proper absorption.
3. GIVE HIM LOTS OF FIBER, SALADS, OATS ETC. as a high sugar and fat meat can cause constipation.
Let me know if u need further assistance. Get well soon!
