3 weeks ago I fell and hit my head, my forehead struck some hardware that was holding a mirror on a door. I had a huge goose egg immediately with a small cut. I got dizzy but didn t pass out. My husband insisted I go to the ER (which I did) but I refused a CAT scan because I didn t feel it was that but at the time. Most of the swelling has gone down but I still have a quarter size knot that is semi tender to the touch, and I also get a pain in it...should I go get it checked out?
Hello dear, I understand your concern. Its common to get a knot after a head trauma due to a hematoma formation.Usually it resolves within a few days.Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDS) can be taken if it is painful. If the hematoma or the knot persists and the pain also increases in a few days, then it should be examined to see,if there is an abscess formation? So,my advise for you is that if the symptoms are improving,no need to get any further investigations but if symptoms are worsening-please get it examined by a surgeon. He may like to prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics then. Computerised tomographic scan(CT Scan) is not needed unless one lose consciousness(as without loss of consciousness, head injury is considered to be clinically mild) due to a head trauma.I hope it helps.
