How To Get Rid Of Lightheadedness And Nausea While Climbing Stairs?

I have been having this problem for a number of years but it has gotten worse recently. I get light headed and nausea with headaches when climbing stairs and or lifting things as light as 5 lbs. ie, golf clubs from my trunk or Moving furniture. Often times get these symptoms just getting out of bed or for seemingly no reason at all. They last for anywhere from 1 to 3 hours sometimes even longer. When I get them there doesn t seem to be anything I can do to lessen or relieve them. I am 69 yearsold and have had heart diease since I had an MI when I was 39 years old. I had an aggioplasty at 40 and emergency by-pass surgery at 41 as a result of a ruptured artery during another angoplasty. At 52, I had my first implanted defibrillator installed and 2 more since then. I exercise every day on a treadmill (set at an elevation of 5 and speed at 4mph.). I also can jog a mile and lift hand weights of 12 lbs. I never get the above symptoms while exercising but at times do get them when I am leaving the gym and have to go upstairs. I have had numerous stress echoes over the years going 12 to 14 minutes each time w/o any ischemia but my ejection fraction is only 35%. I should mention I may have had a TIA a few years back when I lost periferial vision in one eye. my nuerologist feel I may have neurologist thinks I may be having ocular E

Hello,

First of all, you should go regularly to a cardiologist to assess your heart conditions.

Moreover, you should take low dose aspirin to avoid blood clots and modify your lifestyle by avoiding a fat-rich diet, smoking and drinking. You should do MRI T2 weighted Brain to assess the brain lesions after TIA.

You need to see an ophthalmologist to exclude glaucoma and other eye diseases.

There are some investigations such as: fasting blood glucose, Lipid profile and measuring blood pressure you could do it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dr/Mustafa, Neurologist
