Hello I stopped smoking 3 years ago but am now addicted to Nicorette Gum 2mg. I often have a mucous cough and my chest can be tight on waking, the tightness is relieved by coughing up clear mucous. Other than these symptoms I am fine. Often chewing the gum irritates my throat causing me to cough. Could this problem be being caused by the gum?
hello user , thanks for contacting health care magic for your health related query . i understand your concerns . nicorette gum contains nicotine and may be causing the burning sensatation in throat , do not swallow the spit - just chew it initially till the tangy taste comes and then park in between gums and cheek - for upto 30 mins before or after gum do nor eat/drink beverages. secondly as you have get rid of smoking , time to quit the nicorette gum as well and for a person like you who have already achieved a task like quitting smoking , it is quite possible . consult a psychiatrist for this problem , he may prescribe you medications like bupropion on his consideration for decreasing the cravings associated . drink a lot of water , do some deep breathing exercises , discuss issues with family and friends and you will overcome it . tae care
