Hello doctor. I am a 60 year old male, 123 pounds, 5' 5". I have a small polyp on my vocal cords. I have been told not to speak for 6 weeks until it heals. I have not had any alcohol and I have smoked one cigarette a day for past six weeks. IF the polyp does not go away, is the surgery absolutely necessary? If so, how long is the operation? How long is recovery? Do I have to rest after the surgery? If so, for how long? And what are the success rates?
Surgery is the best option. Along with that, kindly do complete blood count. Treatment depends upon the underlying conditions. You can take tablet Dolo, tablet Cetirizine, tablet Amoxi-Clav. Do saline gargles or Betadine gargles. Take steam for about 3 to 4 times a day. Kindly follow with a detailed history and reports or consult with ENT surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shyam B. Kale
