Hey! I have red bumps on my pubic area. I m 15 and a girl. I m a virgin. I googled it and It might be folliculitis or however you spell it lol. It s red bumps that hurt to touch sometimes and get filled with pus occasionally but have ingrown hairs. I pop some of them sometime to get the hairs out. What is this and how do I treat it? I used to shave and I guess after I started shaving it appeared really bad. I dont shave anymore though and when I did, it was only two or three times. I feel so unattractive there because of it
Hello, I'm Dr. Klarida and I read your question very carefully.
It looks indeed as Folliculitis from your description. Folliculitis is the infection of the hair follicules, so that why it has the pus and the hair in it.
I would recommend not to pop those, because they may become more infected, and leave a scar when healed.
If new ones with pus are appearing you might need a prescription with an antibiotic cream to treat it. Talk with your mom, that you need to take Muporicin (Bactroban), and be sure you are not allergic to it, before using it. Use this medication only on the skin. Clean and dry the affected area first. Then apply a small amount of ointment to the area 3 times a day, for 7 days minimum. You may need to talk with your doctor if they get worse, because in that case, you may need oral antibiotics.
Take care.
